Car foil is a type of vinyl used to wrap cars. It has several advantages over regular vinyl. The most important of these differences is the degree of gloss and shine, especially in types such as Metallic Foil or Chrome Foil. However, in terms of protection, it is less durable and more sensitive to scratches than other types, requiring greater care and attention. Regarding costs and prices, auto foil is more expensive than other types of cars wrapping, and we will discuss this in detail in the following paragraphs.

Why is auto foil more expensive than regular vinyl wrap?

Raw materials used: Foil is more expensive, such as materials that change color depending on the light or give it a metallic sheen. Additional layers are used in the manufacturing process to increase reflectivity. These materials are rarer and more complex.

Installation process: It is well known that foil wrapping is more delicate and prone to cracking during installation, which increases the installation time and the cost of the wrapping expert, as the average worker is unable to install it professionally and without cracks.

Professional installation tools and more waste: As mentioned, foil wrapping is more precise, so we use tools such as a heat gun and dull knives, and we order a spare in case any cracks occur, which increases the burden on the installer.

Increasing the price of the car: The stunning appearance it gives the car makes it more beautiful, unique, and luxurious, which increases its price in the market.

Golden Tips for Preserving Foil Wrap for the Longest Possible Life

As we mentioned earlier, foil requires special care and attention, especially since its lifespan is shorter than other vinyl materials and it is more susceptible to swelling and cracking due to heat. We've divided our tips into three stages: before, during, and after wrapping:

Before Wrapping:

Choose a brand that offers high-quality materials, such as 3M, Avery Dennison, Oracal, or Hexis.

Because cheap materials peel quickly, the color fades over time, are difficult to remove, and may leave glue on the car's body surface, which is definitely not what you want.

Deeply clean the vehicle's surface and use a car degreaser to remove every last grain of sand or dust to ensure a smooth and quick bonding and installation process.

Check the original paint before applying the wrap, as the wrap will not adhere to peeling paint or poor-quality paint.

During installation (it is not recommended to install foil without experience).

Do not wrap outdoors, as the sun's heat makes adhesion more difficult and sand grains may accumulate on the car's surface, affecting the adhesion of the foil.

In addition, use the appropriate tools. Try to install the foil in stages and with small pieces. If you make a mistake or crack, losses will be less, as it is more expensive.

After installation:

Do not wash the car for 3-5 days, as the adhesive on the foil will remain under the car for some time to settle.

After this period, you can carefully wash the car by hand without using high-pressure water jets or chemicals that may affect the adhesion.

Use a special wax to polish the foil. Do not leave it in the sun for long periods to avoid swelling or cracking. Check the edges periodically. If you find any cracks or the foil is detaching from the car's surface, take it to a workshop before the problem worsens.
